dope band t shirts - Rebel Meets

Rebel Meets Rebel

Rebel Meets Rebel

A collaboration between country legend David Allan Coe, plus Pantera's Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, and Rex Brown, Rebel Meets Rebel serve as a throwback to the ragged glory of second-string Southern rock acts such as Molly Hatchet and the Outlaws. Fusing the nastiest, most uncompromising elements of the hard rock that made Dime and Co. famous with Coe's rebellious spirit, RMR succeed on tracks such as "Cowboys Do More Dope," "Panfilo," and "Time," though others, especially "N.Y.C. Streets" and "Get Outta My Life" (with Hank Williams III) are less successful, never becoming the fully-formed ideas that constitute great or even very good songs. Ultimately, RMR will satisfy Dimebag completists while doing little to enhance the late guitar legend's legacy. --Jedd Beaudoin

okay, seriously. i thought a lot about what to do with this picture. at first i was looking forward to posting it, because i really like it, but then i thought about what it means, what it says about me. turns out: a lot. was a mess to get it scanned though, i only have a large print of it.

it goes back to 1996 as well, and it's probably no question of what i'm doing here. am i ashamed of that? heck no! it was part of my youth, and it didn't last long. and to tell you the truth: i don't care what other people think of it, well i might just a little, but i stand by my past. the good thing for me is that i don't do it anymore.

my current view on this can be best expressed with lyrics from the song "straight edge" by minor threat:
I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
'Cause I know I can cope

I stopped drinking by the end of 1998. alcohol never really suited me in any way. i didn't really like the taste, and i didn't like the feeling of being drunk. call me a control freak, but i didn't like what it did to my mind and my body. three months later i went to a show of "earth crisis", a by then still pretty famous band of the next generation straight edge kids. a friend of mine knew the singer who was of course straight edge.

that term hasn't been used for a while, so an explanation might be in order. basically it goes back to the eighties, when kids went to hardcore shows and got crosses on their hands, so that the bar tender would know they wouldn't get any alcohol. which suited them pretty fine. the term straight edge was coined by minor threat with the aforementioned song. basically you don't do drugs, don't drink, don't smoke, and don't f*** around in the wild. vegetarianism or veganism for most is a logical consequence of that life style. it was that for me too.

meeting that singer and being and that show had a big influence on me. when we talked to him i was smoking which didn't seem to bother him, but looking back i'm still a little embarrassed by that. the day after that show i sat in a lecture and thought about smoking and why i'm doing it anyway. since i couldn't come up with any apparent reason (who can?) i threw my cigarettes away right after the lecture and haven't looked back since. that was on march 30th 1999, more than eight years ago.

i became a vegetarian some time in june 1999, and also haven't looked back. since then i started to care about what i eat.

i still get weird looks when i tell people these things about me. it's not that i'm wearing a t-shirt that says i'm all that, but it comes up from time to time. other people get defensive about eating meat, other people don't care. in the end i don't care as well. everybody's responsible for their own lives. don't bother me about what i do, i won't do the same to you.

credit for all this has to go to my good friend alexis who had a huge influence on me regarding all this.
